The problem

Internal gutters were popular in the 80s and 90s. Most haven't aged well.

Internal gutters (also called concealed gutters) sit hidden behind the fascia, inside the edge of your roof. When they block, rust or overflow, the water has only one place to go: into your home.

And because you can’t see them from the ground, problems usually go unnoticed until the damage is already done.

Signs your internal gutters are failing

Gutter conversions

What is an internal gutter conversion?

An internal gutter conversion is when your hidden internal gutters are removed and replaced with external spouting that runs along the outside edge of your roof.

The old gutter channel is taken out, the roof edge is tidied up, and a new fascia board and external spouting are fitted, with downpipes connected to your existing stormwater. The result is a roofline that catches rainwater on the outside of your home instead of inside it.

Not sure if your home needs it? We’ll take a look and give you an honest recommendation, even if that’s “not yet.”

When is the right time to convert?

Most homeowners convert when one of these happens:

Once an internal gutter has overflowed into a soffit or ceiling, it’s likely to happen again. Converting fixes the cause, not just the symptom.

Internal gutters on many 1980s and 90s homes are now reaching the end of their life. Replacing them with the same system means the same risks for another 20+ years.

If your roof is being replaced, it’s the ideal time. The scaffolding is already up and the roof edge is already exposed, so it’s usually the most cost-effective time to do it.

If the timber around your roofline is rotting or needs replacing, converting at the same time avoids paying for the work twice.

Building inspectors often flag internal gutters. Converting before you sell can remove a sticking point for buyers. If you’ve just bought, it’s peace of mind from day one.

The best time is before the heavy rain arrives, not in the middle of it.

The solution

Move the water outside, where it belongs

An internal gutter conversion replaces your hidden gutters with a modern external spouting system and new fascia. Rainwater is caught and carried away on the outside of the house, well clear of your walls, ceilings and framing.

Why external spouting is better

01

Handles heavy rain

Wider, deeper spouting copes with the downpours we’re getting more often now.

02

Protects your home

If anything does overflow, it spills outside, not into your ceilings, insulation or framing.

03

Easy to check and clean

Everything is visible and reachable, so small issues get spotted early.

04

Adds value

Buyers and building inspectors flag internal gutters. A conversion takes that concern off the table.

05

Looks great

A fresh, modern roofline in your choice of colour.

Many different options to suit all manner of house types and desired style.

Fascia options

We typically install a new metal fascia behind the new gutter and this is manufactured specially to suit the dimension of your project.

We are happy to work in with your (or our) builder to install a painted timber fascia instead of a metal fascia. Please enquire to discuss options.

Colour ranges

Pre-painted steel offering a range of colours for aesthetic appeal.

High-performance coating ensuring long-lasting colour and protection.

Existing gutter materials

If you are concerned that your existing internal gutters are past their used-by date and are in need of replacing it is worth considering changing from an internal system to a much more reliable external rainwater management system. It is often much cheaper than anticipated!

If the time is not right to undertake a conversion then we will happily quote to replace the internal gutters.

Ask for a quote for both options to compare and make an informed decision!
